A Day Out in Beautiful Mount Dora, Florida
Just over an hour from Florida Delight @ Watersong, Mount Dora is one of our favourite day-trip spots—especially on a Sunday when the farmers’ market brings the town to life.
A Scenic Drive and Easy Arrival
We chose to take the quieter 429 toll road, which was a relaxing alternative to the busy I-4. We’ve now visited three times and each visit has offered something new to enjoy.
Farmers’ Market Fun
Arriving around midday, we found the Mount Dora Farmers’ Market in full swing—local produce, carved gifts, handmade jewellery, and delicious samples to try. Parking in the centre was tricky, so we headed to Gilbert Park, which had plenty of free spaces and turned out to be the perfect base.
The Free Town Shuttle (So Handy!)
From Gilbert Park, we flagged down the free shuttle service—large golf buggy-style vehicles that seat five and will drop you anywhere in town.

The driver even called a second shuttle to pick up the rest of our group. There’s also a QR code at the park if you prefer to use the app.
Lunch with a View
We picked Pisces Rising, a lakeside restaurant with outdoor dining, live music, and absolutely amazing cheesecake. It lived up to its glowing reviews.
Exploring Town
Post-lunch, we wandered through Mount Dora’s charming boutique shops, full of unique gifts, art, and antiques. On our way to Gilbert Park, we made a lovely pit stop at the historic Lakeside Inn, sipping coffee from rocking chairs on the veranda, overlooking the lake.
Sunset Walk at Gilbert Park
The highlight was our sunset boardwalk walk. We were just in time as the sun began to set, painting the sky in golds and purples. Along the trail, we spotted a large alligator below (don’t worry, the boardwalk sits safely above the water) and ended the stroll watching over 40 turkey vultures roosting in the trees. A surreal and peaceful finish to the day.
Final Thoughts
Mount Dora is ideal for couples or adults seeking a peaceful escape from theme park energy. Quirky shops, stunning nature, and lakeside charm—it’s no wonder we keep going back.
